Advent Market in the Heart of Alt-Wetter

The Weihnachtsmarkt Wetter (Ruhr) is one of the most beautiful small Advent events in the southern Ennepe-Ruhr district. For years, it has taken place on the second weekend of Advent in the historic old town of Wetter – concentrated around the Lutherkirche and the Bismarckquartier. Its location above the Ruhr valley, the half-timbered scenery, and its proximity to Wetter Castle make the market an atmospheric destination for families from the Ruhr area and Sauerland.

December 5th and 6th, 2026 – The Next Edition

In 2026, the market will open on Saturday, December 5th, from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM and on Sunday, December 6th, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM – traditionally, just like the previous edition on December 6th and 7th, 2025. This weekend coincides with St. Nicholas Day in the city's calendar, giving the market a special family character.

25 Exhibitors with Crafts and Culinary Delights

Around 25 exhibitors will present their products in wooden stalls directly in front of the church. You'll find handmade candles, ceramics, jewelry, artworks, handmade children's clothing, and seasonal decorations. The culinary offerings range from potato pancakes, bratwurst, and crêpes to mulled wine, punch, hot apple cider, and cocoa – a classic Westphalian Christmas market selection in a manageable, personal atmosphere.

Stage Program with Local Choirs and Bands

The stage program is a hallmark of the market. Traditionally, Saturday opens with performances by local kindergartens and primary schools in the early afternoon. This is followed by the Ukraine Aid Witten, singer Steven Liebrand, and the band StolBerk with a folksy Christmas repertoire. On Sunday, the day begins with an ecumenical service in the Lutherkirche at 10:00 AM, followed by performances by a brass ensemble, the Grooving Voices, and Peter Böhner & Carolin Müller with classical Christmas music.

St. Nicholas, Creative Workshop, and Children's Program

The Wetter Christmas market is particularly attractive for families. St. Nicholas will visit the market on Saturday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, distributing small gifts. New to the program: the "Creative Elf Workshop" in the Lutherkirche community center, where children aged four and up can decorate candles and make Christmas tree ornaments. It is precisely this small, personal character that distinguishes the market from the large Advent events in Dortmund or Essen.

Wetter an der Ruhr is located in the Ennepe-Ruhr district in North Rhine-Westphalia, nestled between the Ruhr valley, Harkortsee lake, and its mining town districts.
