Summer festival on Harkortsee with two stages, 50 stalls and fireworks finale — since 1995
In the southern Ruhr area, on the border with the Sauerland, lies Wetter (Ruhr) — a small town with just under 30,000 inhabitants, unusually situated scenically between the Ruhr valley and the hill country. The dominant body of water is the Harkortsee, a 1.4 km² reservoir in the course of the Ruhr. Since 1995, the town has hosted the Seefest every year in September on Harkortsee — a summer festival that has established itself as a permanent fixture in the event calendar of the southern Ruhr area.
The Seefest 2026 runs on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Three festival areas will be in use:
The program combines live music, culinary delights, and a sense of community:
The Harkortsee is more than just a body of water — it is Wetter's local recreation center. Sailing, stand-up paddling, walks along the shore, natural swimming. The Seefest fully utilizes this locational advantage: the setting directly on the water, the promenade as a natural strolling area, the view of the lake during the live sets and the fireworks give the festival its unmistakable character.
The Seefest has been running since 1995 — for over 30 years. During this time, it has become established: the same date (early September), the same locations on Harkortsee, the same sequence of events. Generations of Wetter residents have built their summer festival memories here.
Wetter (Ruhr) is located in the Ennepe-Ruhr district, at the transition from the Ruhr area to the Sauerland. With the Harkortsee, the neighboring Hengsteysee, the historic Wetter Castle, and its proximity to Hagen and Witten, the town offers an unusual mix of industrial history and landscape. The Seefest is one of the three major annual city events.
The 2026 edition continues the line established since 1995: one day, three festival areas on the shore, two stages, and the traditional fireworks in the evening over Harkortsee. The detailed stage program will be published on the city's website in the weeks leading up to the event.

Free admission.
By train: Wetter (Ruhr) station, from there about a 10-minute walk to Harkortsee. By car: A1 or A45, parking available near the shore (partially closed during the festival).
Free admission.
Arrive in good time before 10:00 PM — the fireworks finale over the Harkortsee is the visual highlight. The best spots are at Seeplatz and on the Naturbad-Ufer (natural swimming pool shore). Being on the lake by boat or SUP is particularly beautiful during the festival — but for safety reasons, there are protected zones for the fireworks.
