About Festival of Brass Music

SV Degersen e.V. is celebrating its 40th club anniversary in 2026 with an extraordinary Festival of Brass Music on May 2nd at the Degersen sports field. Under the motto "The Mountain is Calling" (Der Berg ruft), 20 music bands from the region and beyond will perform — an exceptional concentration of brass music that makes the festival a regional highlight. The organizers are the Degersen Fire Department's music corps and SV Degersen e.V., who are jointly creating a program of concerts, marching music performances, joint appearances, and festive program items. The festival utilizes its natural location at the foot of the Deister hills as an atmospheric venue, combining music with the club anniversary, natural surroundings, and communal celebration. It also marks the grand finale of a festive weekend that began on April 30th with "Dance into May" (Tanz in den Mai).

Festival of Brass Music — 20 Bands, One Mountain, One Club History

SV Degersen e.V., the sports club of Degersen, a district of Wennigsen, looks back on 40 years of club history in 2026. To mark this occasion, the club, together with the Degersen Fire Department's music corps, is planning an extraordinary event: A Festival of Brass Music featuring 20 participating music bands. This concentration of brass music in one place on one day is unusual in the Hanover region and makes the festival a must-attend for lovers of this musical genre.

The Motto: The Mountain is Calling

The motto "The Mountain is Calling" (Der Berg ruft) references Degersen's geographical location at the foot of the Deister hills. With 405 meters, the Deister is the highest mountain in the western Hanover area and a popular local recreation spot. The motto connects the club's history with the connection to nature and homeland, which is characteristic of many North German brass music clubs — a rootedness in landscape, tradition, and communal singing and playing.

20 Bands — A Packed Stage Program

20 music bands over one day means a tightly scheduled program. The participating bands — from the local Degersen Fire Department's music corps to neighboring shooting and club bands, as well as invited music groups from the wider Hanover region — will perform on several stages or in a staggered sequence. Concert contributions, marching music performances, joint appearances (all bands together), and festive program items will alternate. This creates an exceptionally diverse listening experience for the audience.

Club Anniversary and Festive Weekend

The festival is part of a double weekend: On April 30th, SV Degersen opens the festival tent for "Dance into May" (Tanz in den Mai) with a DJ and live acts, followed by the Festival of Brass Music on May 2nd. This program lineup turns the club anniversary into a multi-day event that appeals to different audiences — dance enthusiasts on Thursday, brass music lovers on Saturday. Proceeds will go towards the club's activities and the future of SV Degersen.
