The big state festival with 8 stages, 5 regional villages, and a parade through the Saale city
Every few years, the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt presents itself in one of its cities: with stages, stalls, villages, traditional costumes, sports, and a big parade. The Saxony-Anhalt Day is the biggest state festival and has been touring the state since 1996. In 2026, Bernburg (Saale) will host the 24th edition — the city on the Saale in the Salzlandkreis district thus brings one of the most important events of state identity to the Saale. Motto: "Where Saxony-Anhalt Meets".
For three days, Bernburg's city center will open up into a centrally organized festival area. Eight stages are spread across the center: the MDR Sachsen-Anhalt & KIKA Stage on Rheineplatz, the Radio Brocken & 89.0 RTL Stage on Karlsplatz, the Radio SAW & Rockland Stage in the castle courtyard, plus five regional villages where the individual districts of Saxony-Anhalt present their cultural and culinary treasures — from Bauhaus furniture from Dessau to Quedlinburg Stollen to Wittenberg Reformation souvenirs.
Musically, the state is putting on a high-quality bill in 2026: Max Giesinger as the contemporary headliner on Saturday evening, plus 90s stars like Culture Beat ("Mr. Vain") and Mark 'Oh ("Tears don't lie") with the party band Ventura Fox for an invited journey through time. For children, the musical "Eule findet den Beat auf Europatour" (The Owl Finds the Beat on a European Tour) is coming to the Carl-Maria-von-Weber-Theater especially for the Saxony-Anhalt Day. In addition, there are eleven themed miles: Jobs & Careers, Children & Sports, Medieval Market, Blue Light Mile (Police, Fire Department, THW), Church Quarter, and much more.
The highlight will be the traditional parade on Sunday, June 7th at 11 AM: over a route of about 2.5 km from Hallesche Straße through the city center, clubs, traditional costume groups, historical floats, and music bands from all corners of Saxony-Anhalt will march. An international street food mile on Auguststraße and the market square rounds off the culinary offerings. Admission is free everywhere — the state invites itself, and everyone is welcome to celebrate.
Bernburg an der Saale will become the capital of Saxony-Anhalt from June 5 to 7, 2026. Eight stages, five regional villages, eleven themed miles, headliner Max Giesinger, 90s stars Culture Beat and Mark 'Oh, the children's musical "Eule findet den Beat", and a 2.5 km long parade on Sunday — the program is gigantic and completely free of charge. The organizers are the City of Bernburg, the State of Saxony-Anhalt, and MDR.
