Wine on the Saale

Bernburg (Saale) is located in the Salzlandkreis on the banks of the Saale river, nestled between the Magdeburger Börde and Anhalt. The town with its approximately 33,000 inhabitants is divided into a lower town (Talstadt) and an upper town (Bergstadt) — dominated by the magnificent Bernburg Castle. The Talstadt-Markt is the venue for the annual Bernburg Wine Market, which will take place for the 34th time in 2026 — founded shortly after reunification, it is one of the oldest wine markets in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt.

Vintners from Several Growing Regions

Unlike pure Saale-Unstrut festivals, Bernburg brings together vintners from various growing regions in one place: Saale-Unstrut, of course, but also Saxony (Elbe wines), Mosel, Rheingau, and Franconia. You can taste your way through Germany — a rarity in this region and the hallmark of the Bernburg Wine Market.

Town Festival Character

The format is not just a pure vintner festival, but a town festival with wine at its center. Live bands and DJs on a main stage, dance events, family programs, regional gastronomy — from bratwurst to Saale trout. For three days, the Talstadt-Markt with its historic burgher houses transforms into a summer festival mile.

Bernburg in the Salzlandkreis

Bernburg is the second-largest town in the Salzlandkreis. In the state of Saxony-Anhalt, it is located halfway between Magdeburg and Halle, well connected by the A14 motorway and the railway. The town with its Renaissance Bernburg Castle (Tilly resided here during the Thirty Years' War), the Tiergarten (zoo), and the Rothensee ship lift is a worthwhile day trip — and especially beautiful at the end of August with the wine market in the center.
