Largest Volksfest in the Ore Mountains for over 500 years — June 5-14, 2026 (506th edition)
The Annaberger KÄT (Ore Mountain dialect for 'Käthe') dates back to an Annan Market first documented in 1520 — named after the city's patron saint, St. Anna. What began as a church fair in honor of St. Anna has evolved over five centuries into the largest Volksfest in the Ore Mountains. The 506th edition will take place from June 5 to 14, 2026, in the city center of the mining town Annaberg-Buchholz in the Erzgebirgskreis district — ten days of showman attractions, live music, beer tents, and fireworks.
The KÄT is open daily from 2 PM, from 5 PM on the opening day (June 5), and until 1 AM on the peak Friday (June 13). Dozens of amusement rides — from the classic Ferris wheel to modern thrill rides — are spread across the festival grounds; showman stalls offering sweets, bratwurst, roasted almonds, and of course, Ore Mountain specialties complete the scene. The main stage presents a varied program of Schlager music, rock, folk music, and DJ sets over the ten days.
The KÄT's 'special offers' are spread across several special days: the Double-Decker Deal on June 5 (two rides for the price of one between 5 PM–6 PM), the Church Service on June 7 at 11 AM in the bumper cars ('Strong Families'), the Lady's Night on June 8 (discounted admission and ride prices), Family Day on June 10 with reduced prices and a mascot parade at 5 PM — and the absolute highlight: the Grand Fireworks Display 'Symphony of Colors' on Saturday, June 13, at 10:30 PM. The KÄT concludes on Sunday, June 14.
Annaberg-Buchholz, a major district town in the Erzgebirgskreis district of Saxony, is one of the historic silver mining centers of the Ore Mountains. The town has been shaped by mining since the 15th century; to this day, mining traditions (miners' parades in Advent, the 'Frohnauer Hammer' mining museum) and Ore Mountain folk art are intertwined. The KÄT, alongside the major miners' parades in December, is the most important large-scale event in Annaberg's annual calendar, attracting visitors from the entire Ore Mountains region, from Chemnitz, and even from the Czech Republic.
The 506th edition of the Annaberger KÄT opens on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 5 PM. Until Sunday, June 14, 2026, the Volksfest will dominate the city center of Annaberg-Buchholz: dozens of amusement rides (from the classic Ferris wheel to modern thrill rides), beer tents with live entertainment, showman stalls, and a packed special program of themed evenings, family events, and fireworks.
