The big oldies party in the Altenburger Land since 1997 — 26th edition on August 22, 2026
ZIII ("Zeche 3") was originally part of the lignite industry that shaped the Altenburger Land in the 19th and 20th centuries. After the mine was closed, the building in Meuselwitz was converted into a dance hall; today, Kultzeche operates a mix of event venue, restaurant, and beer garden there. In 1997, the team organized the first "Meuselwitzer Stadthausfete" — an oldies party as an anti-disco concept: not current charts, but classics from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, danced to in the beer garden under the open sky.
What began in 1997 as an experimental summer event is now a fixed date in the festival calendar of the Altenburger Land. Over the years, more and more regulars have come — many come annually, some from Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and even Berlin. The 26th edition in 2026 will take place on Saturday, August 22. In the green beer garden of Kultzeche, during long summer evenings, with a beer or two or a glass of wine.
The main musical act in 2026, as in many previous years, is DJ Thomas Vogel with his "Veritas" oldies discotheque. Vogel is an institution in the Altenburger Land — he plays classics from soul, funk, disco, classic rock, and German Schlager. The atmosphere shifts from relaxed sitting at the beginning to an open dance floor under the open sky as darkness falls. In addition, some surprises at the bar contribute to the nostalgic atmosphere.
Meuselwitz is a small town in the Altenburger Land district in the state of Thuringia, on the border with Saxony. With around 10,000 inhabitants, it is a central point in a sparse lignite mining region — the open-cast mining past shapes the landscape around the town. Kultzeche is one of the examples of how post-industrial buildings can become cultural centers.
