Open-air concert with Stahlzeit and aerial fireworks over the Haselbacher See
The Haselbacher See in Altenburger Land is a former open-cast mine that was flooded after the end of lignite mining and has developed into a popular recreational area. Today, it offers water sports, lidos, and, for several years, the concert stage for the "See in Flammen" event series. The series — held at several lakes in Germany — combines open-air concerts with large aerial fireworks over the water.
The main act is Stahlzeit, one of Germany's most popular Rammstein tribute bands. They reproduce the live show of the Berlin-based industrial metal band with great effort: pyrotechnics (flamethrowers, spark fountains), stage show with acting elements, and sonically precise reproduction of the Rammstein recordings. Those who haven't been able to experience Rammstein live themselves or didn't want to will find an authentic alternative with Stahlzeit — with all the hits from "Du Hast" and "Sonne" to "Engel" and "Deutschland".
The absolute highlight is the grand aerial fireworks display after the concert. A colorful pyro show unfolds over the dark water of the Haselbacher See — and is completely reflected in the still water of the lake. This double visibility (above and below) makes "See in Flammen" a visual experience that surpasses normal stage fireworks.
Unlike classic rock open-airs, "See in Flammen" is designed as a family event: Children up to 10 years old get in free, there is plenty of space on the sunbathing lawn by the lake, a children's program area, and several food stalls offering bratwurst, fries, and sweets. Admission starts as early as 6:00 PM — families can picnic and enjoy the sunset by the water before the concert.
Meuselwitz and the surrounding Altenburger Land were East Thuringia's most important lignite mining area until 1990. With the end of open-cast mining, lakes were created that are now used as recreational areas — the Haselbacher See is one of them. "See in Flammen" embodies this transformation: industrial landscape becomes event space, economic location becomes tourist destination.
The evening is a classic open-air setup: admission in the late afternoon, relaxed concert countdown with picnic and sunset by the lake, Stahlzeit on the main stage from 8:30 PM, and concluding fireworks over the water. An event aimed at families and Rammstein lovers alike.
