Advent Weekend on Rathausplatz
When the fairy lights on Niederkassel's Rathausplatz twinkle in early December, the Christmas Market organised by the local associations is here: On December 5th and 6th, 2026, the Rhenish medium-sized town in the Rhein-Sieg district opens its market square for the Advent weekend. The organiser is Ortsring Niederkassel e.V., which organises the event as a community-driven town festival.

The range of stalls reflects the diversity of associations and businesses in the town:
- Gift Items — Advent decorations, jewellery, handicrafts
- Culinary Specialities — from fries to smoked trout to goulash, accompanied by mulled wine and punch
- Association Stalls — gastronomic offerings from local associations and shops
Stage Programme with Children and Associations
A special feature of Niederkassel: Local youngsters regularly perform on the central stage — kindergartens with Christmas carols, schools with small performances, associations with choir or dance contributions. This makes the market a true neighbourhood event — as each performance brings parents, grandparents, and friends. At scheduled times, St. Nicholas and angels visit the market and distribute gifts to children.
Market Atmosphere and Christmas Tree
The Rathausplatz is transformed into a Christmas stage with a freshly decorated Christmas tree and new lighting. The scale is manageable — no mass tourism, but a conscious neighbourhood celebration. The opening hours in 2025 were Saturday 3 PM–10 PM and Sunday 12 PM–7 PM — similar times are expected for 2026.
