Four days of Pentecost beach festival on the Rhine in Niederkassel-Mondorf — cover bands, funfair, and fireworks
The Strandfest Mondorf has been the largest Volksfest (public festival) in Niederkassel for decades. From May 22nd to 25th, 2026 — the classic Pentecost weekend — TuS Mondorf 1910/20 e.V. transforms the Rhine riverbank in the Mondorf district into a four-day festival venue. Funfair rides, festival marquee, live bands, DJs, festival grounds — and on Saturday evening, a grand firework display over the Rhine. Free admission.
The organizer is the Turn- und Sportverein Mondorf 1910/20 e.V. — the traditional sports club of the Niederkassel district of Mondorf. The Strandfest is its most important revenue event of the year; the proceeds go towards youth work and sports departments. Hundreds of club members and volunteers make this festival weekend happen — from catering in the marquee to safety along the Rhine.
The 2026 festival program is clearly scheduled:
The absolute highlight of every Strandfest is the firework display over the Rhine on Saturday evening around 10:00 PM. The reflections on the river double the effect — a unique spectacle from the festival grounds. Those who want a particularly good spot should secure their location in the late afternoon. Ships on the Rhine anchor during the fireworks and become part of the scenery.
Everything is close together on the festival site by the Rhine: funfair rides (Ferris wheel, carousel, dodgems, prize stalls), festival marquee with live music and DJs, festival grounds for snacks, fries, bratwurst, and cocktails. Families with children will find their entertainment on the funfair; adults meet in the marquee in the evening for a party. The mix is what gives the Strandfest its charm — it's not purely a concert event, but a classic Rhenish Volksfest.
Niederkassel is located on the right bank of the Rhine between Cologne and Bonn in the Rhein-Sieg district. Mondorf is one of its seven districts, situated directly on the river. By car, you can get there in 25 minutes from Cologne-South, and even in 15 minutes from Bonn-Center. A ferry historically connects Mondorf with Graurheindorf on the opposite bank — making the Strandfest a destination for Bonn visitors too.
