Advent crafting, campfire, and stick bread in front of the fire station – a neighbourhood Christmas market by the Heinersdorf Volunteer Fire Brigade, December 5, 2026
Heinersdorf is a small district in the north of Pankow, located between Pankow-Mitte and Weißensee. It was long characterized by its rural nature but is now part of the Berlin cityscape. For decades, a volunteer fire brigade has been based here, not only providing fire protection but also actively shaping neighbourhood life. Every year in December, the brigade organizes a small Christmas market in front of the fire station at Romain-Rolland-Straße 105–107.
The format is deliberately kept small and personal: not a commercial market with supplier logistics, but a neighbourhood gathering. An open campfire burns in the courtyard in front of the fire station, children bake stick bread on long wooden sticks, and a table is set up for Advent crafting. Freshly baked waffles, grilled sausages, mulled wine, children's punch, and hot chocolate are served. The firefighters themselves work behind the counters, and many Heinersdorf families have been regular visitors for years.
Advent crafting is the main focus for children: straw stars, wooden pendants, small angels, Christmas cards. Various surprises for children and adults are announced – including regular visits from St. Nicholas, sometimes demonstrations of fire-fighting equipment, and tours of the station with the firefighters.
The proceeds from mulled wine, food, and donations go directly to the Heinersdorf Volunteer Fire Brigade and help finance equipment and youth fire brigade activities, among other things. Those who want to learn more about the brigade or become a member can speak directly with the staff on site.
The 2026 edition follows the well-established format: an afternoon neighbourhood festival in the courtyard in front of the fire station, organized by the Heinersdorf firefighters themselves. The focus is on the open campfire where children bake stick bread, the craft table for Advent decorations, and the counter serving freshly baked waffles, sausages, and mulled wine. Various surprises will be announced on-site – often a visit from St. Nicholas, fire-fighting equipment demonstrations, and short tours of the station.
Surprise program elements will be added spontaneously on-site.
