Family festival in Schlossgarten Schönhausen with art, music, and children's program
Schloss Schönhausen in Berlin's Pankow district of Niederschönhausen was once the summer residence of Prussian queens and, during the GDR era, a guest house for the government. Today, it belongs to the Foundation of Prussian Palaces and Gardens Berlin-Brandenburg. The extensive palace garden with old tree-lined avenues, a pond, and the baroque main building forms the backdrop for the annual Kunstfest Pankow.
For one weekend in June, the entire palace grounds are divided into several zones. On the main stage, bands from Berlin and Brandenburg play across various styles – pop, jazz, folk, classical. On the lawns, artists from the district exhibit their works, ranging from sculpture and painting to performance. Small stages become islands for readings and comedy.
With a focus on family offerings, the art festival is one of the most popular family events in the entire city. Hands-on workshops for painting, building, and crafting, a fairy tale tent, face painting, a carousel, and a children's concert are spread throughout the garden. Small stalls offer craft materials, books, and sustainable toys.
The main organizer is GESOBAU AG, one of the largest housing associations in Pankow, in collaboration with the Pankow district office and the Foundation of Prussian Palaces and Gardens. The festival aims to be a social and cultural meeting point for the district – an important anchor between housing, neighborhood, and culture in a growing Berlin.
The 2026 edition of the Kunstfest Pankow will run on the weekend of June 13–14, 2026, in the palace garden of Schloss Schönhausen. It starts at 12 PM on both days.
Several stages and hands-on stations are spread across the expansive palace garden in 13156 Berlin-Niederschönhausen. The festival is organized by GESOBAU AG in cooperation with the Pankow district office. Admission is free.
The complete 2026 program will be published by GESOBAU in May/June. Known from previous years and continued for 2026:
Free admission. Food, drinks, and craft materials are paid for on-site.
Take tram line M1 or 50 to Tschaikowskistraße, then about a five-minute walk to the palace garden. S-Bahn stations Pankow-Heinersdorf or Wollankstraße are reachable in 15 to 20 minutes on foot. Bus 250 or 255 goes directly to the palace. Parking options nearby are limited.
Free – the entire palace garden area is accessible free of charge during the art festival.
Bring a blanket for a picnic; the palace garden is large and the most beautiful park in Berlin after Tiergarten and Pfaueninsel. The children's program focuses on the morning and early afternoon; stage programs run into the evening.
