Advent in the Schlei Community

Brodersby-Goltoft is located right on the Schlei in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, between Schleswig and Kappeln. The small community with around 700 inhabitants thrives on its location on the Baltic Sea fjord, the market hub of the Schleidörfer citizens' cooperative, and an active village community that organizes numerous events throughout the year.

What awaits you

The Christmas market traditionally takes place on an Advent Saturday — in 2026 on December 12th from 3 PM. You can expect:

• lovingly decorated stalls with arts and crafts and gift ideas
• Christmas specialties: mulled wine, punch, fresh waffle aroma, hearty snacks
• regional products from the Schlei region
• Christmas music and a festive atmosphere
• Part of the Living Advent Calendar: on several Advent days, a different farm or a different door in the village opens

Living Advent Calendar

The "Living Advent Calendar" is a particularly North German tradition deeply rooted in the Schlei villages. On various evenings during Advent, the village community gathers at different locations — in front of a beautifully decorated window, a barn, or a garden — and sings Christmas carols together over punch and tea. The Christmas market on December 12th is the largest joint event in the Advent calendar and the highlight of the Schlei Advent in Brodersby-Goltoft.

More than just an Advent day

The 2026 event calendar shows a committed community: Easter bonfire on April 4th, village festival on August 21st/22nd, lantern walk on November 6th, and New Year's Eve punch on December 31st. Those who experience Advent in Brodersby-Goltoft also get to know the village — and thus a piece of authentic Schlei atmosphere far from the big Christmas markets of Kiel, Lübeck, or Flensburg.
