425th Anniversary of the Warstein Civil Archers Society 1601 — Floodlight Kaiserschießen and Anniversary Program
The Warstein Civil Archers Society 1601 (BSG) is one of the oldest shooting societies in the Sauerland region. Founded in the year 1601 — at a time when the Sauerland was still part of the Duchy of Westphalia and the region was shaped by the turmoil of the Reformation — the society has survived generations, wars, changes, and structural transformations. In 2026, it celebrates its 425th anniversary — a remarkable date that is rarely found in this form in the Westphalian shooting landscape.
The grand anniversary program runs on Friday, October 2nd and Saturday, October 3rd, 2026 — on the Tag der Deutschen Einheit weekend. The most spectacular announced program item:
The extraordinary aspect: a book / a commemorative publication for the 425th anniversary has already been released. The preparation for the anniversary is so comprehensive that the history of the BSG has been documented — source research, club life over four centuries, king chains, shooting traditions, and social significance. A depth that shows how seriously the BSG takes its anniversary.
A shooting fraternity / society that is 425 years old has experienced the following during this time:
Through all of this, the BSG has preserved its identity and tradition — assembling, king shooting, shooting mass, club life.
Warstein is deeply rooted in the shooting tradition in the Soest district. In addition to the Civil Archers Society 1601, there are other shooting clubs (St. Pankratius Allagen, Hubertus Belecke, etc.) that fill the annual Schützenfest calendar. The annual Warstein Pentecost Schützenfest is one of the largest Schützenfeste in the Sauerland — a major event in itself. The 425th anniversary in 2026 is an additional highlight event.
Warstein (around 26,000 inhabitants) is located in the Soest district, in the southern Sauerland, at the transition from the Hochsauerland to the Soester Börde. Known primarily for the Warsteiner Brewery (one of Germany's largest breweries) and the stone industry. With its central location on the Rothaarsteig trail and near the Möhnesee lake, Warstein is a gateway to the Sauerland for tourism.
The 2026 anniversary edition marks the 425th existence of the BSG Warstein, founded in 1601. The floodlight Kaiserschießen is announced as a visual highlight; further program items (parade, ceremonial reception, gala ball, honors) will be communicated by the BSG during the preparation phase.
The complete program will be published by the Warstein Civil Archers Society 1601 before the date.
Admission to public program items is free. Ceremonial reception/gala ball may have an admission fee.
By car: A44 exit Erwitte/Anröchte or A46 exit Meschede, then towards Warstein. By train: Lippstadt or Meschede station, then by bus.
Admission to the parade and public program items is free. For the ceremonial reception, gala ball, and special events, admission may apply — details will be announced.
The floodlight Kaiserschießen is the most visually spectacular program item — definitely plan for it. Those who wish to delve deeper into the history of the BSG can get the commemorative publication / anniversary book.
