Seaside resort's season opening with market, music, and kite festival
The Warnemünde Spring Landgang is the official season opening of the Rostock seaside resort of Warnemünde. The event was formerly called »Stromerwachen« and was transformed into today's Spring Landgang under a new concept and new name. It takes place around May 1st and marks the beginning of the tourist summer season in the seaside resort of the Hanseatic city of Rostock.
A market mile with stalls, culinary offerings, and arts and crafts stretches along the promenade to the Warnemünde lighthouse. Barrel organs, traditional costume groups, and maritime decorations give the Spring Landgang its traditional character. Market and food stalls are usually open from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
A popular kite festival takes place on the weekend directly on the beach: colourful large kites dance over the Baltic Sea near the Teepott. The popular sandcastle competition, where families and teams build elaborate structures in the sand, is also a firm part of the programme.
Concerts on the lighthouse forecourt and along the promenade create a spring atmosphere. A children's programme — featuring the well-known animator Pia, among others — entertains the youngest guests in the afternoon. The festival thus combines tradition, family entertainment, and a maritime atmosphere for the season's opening.
Warnemünde is directly accessible by S-Bahn from Rostock Hauptbahnhof. From Warnemünde station, it's only a few steps to the Alter Strom and the promenade.
From April 29 to May 3, 2026, Warnemünde celebrates the start of the summer season with the Spring Landgang. The seaside resort transforms into a lively festival mile between the Kurhausgarten, promenade, and lighthouse.
Along the promenade, market and food stalls as well as arts and crafts line up, generally open from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. A children's programme entertains the youngest guests from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and concerts create a spring atmosphere on the lighthouse forecourt. On Saturday and Sunday, a colourful kite festival takes place directly on the beach, and the popular sandcastle competition attracts families and teams.
By S-Bahn from Rostock Hauptbahnhof to Warnemünde, then a few minutes' walk to the promenade. By car via the B103.
Free admission. Market and food stalls are usually open from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
The kite festival on the beach takes place on the weekend — particularly impressive with a strong Baltic Sea wind.
