If you associate saunas with quiet sweating, you only know half the story. Sauna Aufguss championships are a growing sport and show discipline where Aufguss masters present their staging as a performance – with choreographed movements, carefully selected music, theatrical direction, and perfect Aufguss technique. The overall performance, choreography, atmosphere, and the craftsmanship of the Aufguss are judged.

The 1st OSTFRIESLAND OPEN

From May 23rd to 25th, 2026 – over the Pentecost weekend – the 1st edition of the OSTFRIESLAND OPEN will take place at the BadeWerk Thalasso-Nordseeheilbad Neuharlingersiel. It is the first open Sauna Aufguss Championship of East Frisia and thus a small sensation for the regional wellness scene. By choosing Neuharlingersiel as the venue, the North Sea coast becomes a new hotspot for the Aufguss community.

MoA – Masters of Aufguss

Participants are Masters of Aufguss (MoA) from German-speaking countries: Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The MoA scene is well-connected and maintains a championship calendar where regional competitions like the OSTFRIESLAND OPEN serve as qualifiers and show events.

Compulsory Theme: East Frisia & North Sea

A special feature of the OSTFRIESLAND OPEN: The compulsory theme for the competitions is East Frisia & North Sea. The Aufguss masters must build their choreography, music selection, and staging around this theme – maritime sounds, Wadden Sea themes, and East Frisian specifics are to be expected. This gives the championship a location-specific flair and makes the competitions a cultural homage to the region.

World Record Attempt: Longest Team Aufguss

A highlight of the weekend is a world record attempt for the longest team Aufguss. A team of Aufguss masters takes turns over several hours to stage a continuous Aufguss – an athletic, physical, and mental challenge that is also engaging for the audience. The exact number of hours targeted for the world record will be communicated by the organizer in advance.

BadeWerk Neuharlingersiel – A Modern Sauna Venue

The BadeWerk Thalasso-Nordseeheilbad Neuharlingersiel is a modern facility with an extensive wellness area. The sauna landscape offers the professional infrastructure for an Aufguss championship – large sauna rooms, good sightlines, and the necessary technology.
