Maritime end-of-season celebration on Warnemünde's Alter Strom
The Warnemünde Bridge Festival, formerly known as the "Stromfest", is the grand finale of the summer season in the Rostock seaside resort of Warnemünde. It takes place every year in September and attracts guests and locals alike to the Alter Strom, the maritime heart of the seaside resort within the Hanseatic city of Rostock.
For five days, sales stands, arts and crafts, and culinary offerings line the Alter Strom. The market offers regional crafts, maritime souvenirs, porcelain, wooden figures, and paintings by local artists. Amusement rides and snack stands complete the picture, making a stroll by the water a family experience.
The historic swing bridge over the Alter Strom gives the festival its name and is its highlight. During the Bridge Festival, it is ceremonially turned — a spectacle that puts the seaside resort's landmark centre stage and attracts thousands of onlookers.
On all festival days, a varied cultural programme with live music, dance, and sea shanties takes place in front of the Vogtei. A boat parade on the Alter Strom and an atmospheric light show are also part of the programme. The relaxed atmosphere of the late summer seaside resort makes the Bridge Festival a popular season finale.
Warnemünde is directly accessible by S-Bahn from Rostock Hauptbahnhof. From Warnemünde station, it's only a few steps to the Alter Strom. Admission to the Bridge Festival is free.
