A tranquil Advent market on the church square of the Baltic Sea resort
The Warnemünde Christmas and New Year's Market takes place every year on the church square in the center of the Rostock seaside resort. Unlike the large city center markets, it focuses on a tranquil, family-friendly atmosphere – a winter wonderland within the municipal area of the Hanseatic city of Rostock in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
A large central festival tent brings all the stalls together and protects guests and vendors from the harsh Baltic Sea wind. A total of around ten stalls offer mulled wine, candied almonds, bratwurst, smoked salmon, and coastal handicrafts. Ship models, maritime decorations, and handmade souvenirs complete the range.
One specialty must not be missed: the legendary Warnemünde Mutzen, small deep-fried dough balls. They are prepared according to the closely guarded secret recipe of the Paasch family. The baker's wife's watchful eye over her husband's shoulder is as much a part of the tradition as the aroma of the freshly baked dough balls.
Every Advent Sunday, Santa Claus holds his office hours at the market. Live music from local artists regularly creates a festive mood. A small miniature railway entertains the youngest guests, and the sale of Christmas trees is also part of the market. The Christmas and New Year's Market runs into the new year, thus accompanying the time between the holidays.
Warnemünde is directly accessible by S-Bahn from Rostock Hauptbahnhof. From Warnemünde station, it's only a few steps to the church square in the center of the seaside resort.
The Warnemünde Christmas and New Year's Market will again take place on the church square in the heart of the seaside resort in the winter of 2026/27. The exact dates will be announced later; the previous edition ran from late November to early January.
