About Kinder- und Heimatfest
Kinder- und Heimatfest — edition 2026
2026 Program
The Kinderfestkommission Wangen im Allgäu e.V. is organizing the 2026 festival in its usual four-day format. Thursday and Friday include setup, opening events, and initial children's program items. Saturday brings the full program to life in the market square and surrounding streets — concerts, games, festival tent operations, and a traditional costume evening. Sunday culminates the weekend with the parade, followed by a family program in the afternoon and evening.
The children's art competition “Journey to the Moon” will be announced in advance — children from the region and Wangen schools will submit their works; the selection will be presented in a public exhibition during the festival. Participation in the competition is part of the sense of identity that has shaped the festival for generations.

A Traditional Festival in a Picture-Book Allgäu Town
Wangen im Allgäu, one of the most beautifully preserved medieval towns in Southern Germany, will be the stage for one of the region's most traditional local festivals during the last week of July. In 2026, the Kinder- und Heimatfest runs from Thursday, July 23rd, to Sunday, July 26th. The event is organized by the Kinderfestkommission Wangen im Allgäu e.V., located at Alois-Leuchte-Weg 30. The festival is a fixture in the summer calendar of the state of Baden-Württemberg and attracts visitors from the entire Allgäu region and beyond.
Sunday Parade — The Climax of Tradition
The highlight is the parade on Sunday afternoon, traditionally held at 2:00 PM through the historic old town with its towers, fountains, and burgher houses. Children in historical costumes, school classes with themed floats, traditional costume groups, and music bands from the Allgäu march through the narrow streets. The old town's backdrop, featuring the Liebfrauenmünster, Pfaffenturm, Frauentor, and Ravensburger Tor, turns the scenes into postcard-perfect moments.
2026 Art Competition and Family Program
For 2026, a children's art competition with the theme “Art Meets Children's Festival — Journey to the Moon” has been announced. Children from the region will express their vision of a moon journey through paintings, sculptures, or collages; the best works will be exhibited during the festival. In addition, there will be classic festival attractions: carousels, ring toss games, shooting galleries, sweets, children's games in the squares, concerts by Wangen's music associations, traditional costume evenings, and a family program.
Wangen and the Allgäu Cultural Heritage
Wangen im Allgäu, with a population of just under 27,000, is located in the Ravensburg district in the southern German state of Baden-Württemberg, just a few kilometers from the border with Bavaria and not far from Lake Constance. The old town, with its over 200 listed buildings, is considered one of the best-preserved medieval town centers in Southern Germany. The Kinder- und Heimatfest is part of this heritage — a tradition that has celebrated the town's children for generations and instills pride in their homeland.
