Christmas market with ice rink at Wandsbeker Marktplatz
2026
About Winterzauber
Winterzauber — edition 2026
From October 31, 2026, to January 3, 2027, Wandsbeker Marktplatz will transform for the 21st time into the largest Advent event in East Hamburg. The organizers, the Wandsbek District Office and EventZone, are once again relying on the proven combination of an ice rink, Alsatian wooden huts, regional vendors, and daily opening hours from 12 PM to 10 PM.
The 400-square-meter ice rink remains the heart of the event: 90-minute sessions starting at noon, with special hours on Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year's Eve. Skates can be rented from 4 Euros, and children under 14 pay 3 Euros admission.

Hamburg's Eastern Winter Fairy Tale
While the tourist markets in the city center crowd around the Binnenalster and Mönckebergstraße, the Wandsbeker Winterzauber offers a much quieter, locally anchored approach – without sacrificing atmosphere. Since 2006, Wandsbeker Marktplatz has transformed from the end of October to the beginning of January into a two-month winter fairy tale with wooden huts, fairy lights, and one of Hamburg's largest ice rinks.
The Ice Rink as the Centerpiece
The landmark of the market is the approximately 400-square-meter ice rink, located within the market grounds. It is operated climate-neutrally and is available daily for 90-minute sessions in alternating shifts. Parents bring their children in the afternoon, and colleagues meet after work in the evening for a round of ice skating before a mulled wine break. The rink has become the social central institution of the district.
Wooden Huts in Alsatian Style
Around the ice rink, there are sales huts with handmade gifts, tarte flambée, roasted almonds, baked apples, and Nordic specialties. For years, the Wandsbek district has focused on a mix of regional vendors and selected catering businesses – a balance that keeps the market family-friendly and commercially manageable.
Tradition and Significance in the District
With its 21st edition in 2026, Winterzauber is one of the most established Advent events in the Wandsbek district, Hamburg's largest borough with over 440,000 inhabitants. Organized by the district office in collaboration with the organizer EventZone, the market is considered an identity feature of eastern Hamburg's city center.
