May 1st in Hedelfingen Forest

The Waldheimfest Hedelfingen has been a fixture in Stuttgart's event calendar on May 1st for years. The Waldheimverein invites you from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM to its grounds on the edge of the forest between Heumadener Straße and Am Bergwald — a traditional May festival that combines Labor Day with a family program, community, and closeness to nature.

Plant Swap and Children's Flea Market

The heart of the festival are the plant swap market and the children's flea market. Hobby gardeners bring seedlings, perennials, herbs, and vegetable young plants to swap or give away — a sustainable format that perfectly suits the May festival season. At the same time, children sell their toys and books from their own blankets, gaining their first sales experience.

Music and Sports

At 1:00 PM, the Akkordeon-Orchester Stuttgart will play an open-air concert — a sonic experience that continues the special Stuttgart accordion tradition. A Taekwondo demonstration by the local sports school will showcase sequences of movement and breaking techniques. For children, there will be face painting and climbing activities at the edge of the forest.

Refreshments and Atmosphere

The Waldheimverein provides refreshments with self-grilled sausages, steaks, and pizza from the wood-fired oven, along with coffee, cake from the club café, and regional wine. Benches and tables are spread around the festival grounds; children play in the adjacent forest and on playgrounds. The family-friendly, club-supported atmosphere is what makes the charm of the festival.

Hedelfingen is a district in the east of Stuttgart with around 10,000 inhabitants, located between the Neckar river and Hedelfingen Forest. The district is home to traditional clubs, including the Waldheimverein, which maintains the club grounds on the edge of the forest and ensures a lively district life with the Waldheimfest on May 1st and other club festivals throughout the year.
