Traditional late-summer Volksfest in the hop town β the last major event of the season in the Pfaffenhofen district
When the hop harvest in the Hallertau slowly comes to an end in September and the fields are cleared, the time comes for Geisenfeld's last major Volksfest of the season. While most Bavarian folk festivals focus on spring, summer, and Oktoberfest, Geisenfeld deliberately secures the late summer date β making it the traditional season finale in the Pfaffenhofen a.d. Ilm district.
Geisenfeld is located in the Pfaffenhofen a.d. Ilm district in Bavaria, right in the middle of the world's largest contiguous hop-growing region: the Hallertau. With just under 12,000 inhabitants, the town is one of the larger municipalities in the district. Hop farming and brewing tradition shape its identity and Volksfest β beer on tap is not just the festival drink here, but local flavor.
The established Volksfest schedule follows the Lower Bavarian pattern:
Unlike the very large folk festivals in Munich, Nuremberg, or Regensburg, the Geisenfeld festival retains its character as a civic event supported by associations. The festival operator works with local breweries and associations that help with catering and setup. The atmosphere is family-friendly, the festival tent is manageable, and the beer is from regional hops β a Volksfest in the true sense of the word.
Throughout the year, folk festivals are a fixture in the Pfaffenhofen district: Maidult Pfaffenhofen, Reichertshausen, Schweitenkirchen, Hohenwarth, Reichertshofen, Ernsgaden, Hallertauer Volksfest Wolnzach, Barthelmarkt Manching, Pfaffenhofener Volksfest β and Geisenfeld as the season finale.
The 2026 dates have been confirmed by the official press communication from the town of Geisenfeld and the 2026 Volksfest calendar of the Pfaffenhofen a.d. Ilm district: Friday, September 18 to Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
The detailed hourly program (band performance times, parade date, festival operator, brewery choice) will be announced in the weeks leading up to the festival on geisenfeld.de. As usual, most of the festival activities will be concentrated on the town square and the fairground.
Current bands, festival operator details, and the detailed hourly schedule will be communicated via the town of Geisenfeld.
Geisenfeld is located about 65 km north of Munich and is accessible via the A 9 motorway (Pfaffenhofen or Manching exit). By train to Wolnzach or Ingolstadt, then by bus. Parking available around the fairground.
