Ten days of Bavarian Wiesn in the Erding district
The Volksfest Dorfen is one of the most traditional festivals in Upper Bavaria. With a history spanning over 148 years, it is firmly anchored in the annual calendar of the town of Dorfen in the Erding district. For over ten days, the festival grounds at the ESC site are transformed into a lively festival mile, attracting young and old from the entire region.
The highlight of the opening is the ceremonial beer tapping, the O' zapfa, with which the first keg is tapped and the Volksfest is officially opened. Accompanied by brass music and festival tent atmosphere, a week of festivities begins, dedicated to Bavarian conviviality.
In the large festival tent, live bands provide entertainment, while on the festival grounds, modern rides, carousels, and showmen offer variety. Bavarian cuisine ranges from roast chicken and grilled fish on a stick to pretzels and beer. A dedicated children's afternoon with reduced prices also makes the Volksfest attractive for families.
Under the guiding principle 'Tradition meets Modernity', the Volksfest Dorfen combines centuries-old customs with contemporary festival culture. Traditional costume wearers, clubs, and guests from the entire Erding district and beyond shape the image of a festival that makes the regional identity of Upper Bavaria tangible.
With its central location in Dorfen and good accessibility, the Volksfest is a social meeting point that strengthens community in rural Upper Bavaria and brings visitors together beyond the town limits.
For ten days, from August 7th to 16th, 2026, the Volksfest Dorfen 2026 invites visitors to the festival grounds at the ESC site. The Wiesn opening with the ceremonial 'O' zapfa' will take place on August 8th, kicking off the festival week with brass music and beer tapping. August 11th features a children's afternoon with reduced prices at the rides. Throughout the festival, the tent, modern rides, showmen, and Bavarian delicacies will provide entertainment.
The festival grounds are located at the ESC site, Am Volksfestplatz 2, 84405 Dorfen. Dorfen can be reached by train via the Munich-Mühldorf line; it's a short walk from the station. By car, take the A 94 (Dorfen exit).
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Costs apply for rides, food, and drinks. Reduced prices are available at the rides during the children's afternoon.
Table reservations in the festival tent are recommended, especially on weekends and for the O' zapfa.
