One-day open-air electronic festival on Vauban Island featuring regional DJs
Since 2023, Vauban Vibes has been the most important one-day electronic festival in Saarland — and at the same time one of the most distinctive. The organizer is the Cultural Office of the District City of Saarlouis in close cooperation with the volunteer collective BOOTEAM e. V., which provides decoration, awareness, and atmosphere with over 40 active members. The venue is Vauban Island — the baroque star island in the arm of the Saar River in front of the Saarlouis fortress, built by Louis XIV in 1680.
The festival has a clear concept: Only DJs from Saarland and the immediate greater region play. No international headliners, no Eventim stage, no sponsor banners. »We reject commercialization and capitalism«, the organizers state on their channels. Instead: regional record spinners, old school and new voices, House, Trance, Techno, Hardgroove, Bass — whatever is currently moving the Saarland-Lorraine scene.
BOOTEAM e. V. decorates the entire festival grounds in a multi-day preparatory effort. There is:
Vauban Island has a special charm: water on both sides, old fortress walls as a backdrop, in the middle of the city and yet shielded from traffic. In summer, it is a popular walking spot for Saarlouis residents — on festival day, it becomes an open-air dance floor. The Vauban star fortress itself is one of the outstanding examples of French Vauban architecture on German soil.
With around 35,000 inhabitants, Saarlouis is the district capital of the District of Saarlouis. In recent years, the city has consciously positioned itself culturally — Vauban Vibes is one of the most visible results. It is an expression of a young, alternative scene that wants to assert itself against commercial mega-structures.
