Wine mile between the town hall and the Rosarium — over 30 years of tradition in the Pinneberg district
Uetersen, with the nickname Rose City, is located in the Pinneberg district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, about 25 kilometers northwest of Hamburg in the transition area between Pinneberg and the Elbmarsch. The Uetersen Wine Festival started in the early 1990s as an initiative of local traders and businesses — and is now a magnet far beyond the city limits. The 33rd edition in September 2026 continues a tradition of over three decades.
The venue is the Wassermühlenstraße in the heart of the old town, between the town hall and the city's famous Rosarium. Under the large linden trees, winemakers from Germany — from the Mosel, Pfalz, and Rheinhessen to Württemberg and Baden — as well as wine merchants from Italy, France, Spain, and Austria set up their stalls. The selection ranges from dry white wines to full-bodied red wines, sparkling wines, Crémant, and sweeter specialties.
In addition to the wine stands, a culinary offering with cheese, olive oils, bread, sausages, and sweet specialties provides the perfect accompaniment. Live music on the market stage creates a great atmosphere — from acoustic pop on Thursday evening to a dance band on the weekend. The cozy old town atmosphere makes the Uetersen Wine Festival a convivial meeting place for locals and guests from the greater Hamburg area.
The wine festival traditionally takes place on the first Thursday in September and runs until the following Sunday. Thursdays are kicked off with DJ Kohrt, and all wine stands open as usual from Friday. The festival benefits from Uetersen's central location and its good transport links to Hamburg and Pinneberg.
The 33rd edition of the Uetersen Wine Festival continues the tradition, alive for over three decades: for four days, Wassermühlenstraße is transformed into a wine mile, with stands from winemakers from German growing regions as well as importers from Italy, France, Spain, and Austria lining up under the tall linden trees between the town hall and the Rosarium.
The opening day on Thursday, September 3rd, 2026, traditionally starts in the late afternoon with DJ Kohrt, who provides the musical accompaniment for the kickoff. From Friday onwards, all stands open as usual, and on Saturday and Sunday, the festival reaches its peak with the largest number of visitors and a full program of live music and tasting opportunities.
Detailed stage program and exhibitor list will be published on ihg-uetersen.de shortly before the event.
