A City Becomes a Concert Stage

The Tübingen Jazz and Classics Days are one of Germany's most unusual music festivals. Instead of creating a central festival site, the association Tübinger Jazz- und Klassik-Tage e.V. transforms the entire Tübingen old town into a concert city for a week: Over 30 venues — from the monumental Stiftskirche to small bookstores, from historic noble halls to cocktail bars — become stages. Around 60 concerts spread over nine days, over 10,000 spectators. A dense, urban musical experience that fuses medieval Tübingen with contemporary music culture. 2026 marks the 28th edition since the festival's founding in 1999.

Over 30 Locations — The City as Festival Grounds

The event concept is radically decentralized. Central venues include the Stiftskirche with its long acoustics (classical concerts and vocal music), the Rittersaal in Tübingen Castle Hohentübingen (chamber music with a historic backdrop), the Pfleghof rooms of the university, and larger halls like the Sudhaus. In addition, concerts take place in bars and restaurants in the old town — deliberately small spaces with an intimate atmosphere. The selection follows a clear logic: no concert takes place twice in the same place, each location develops its own style and audience.

Stylistic Breadth and Programmatic Focus

Musically, the festival covers an extreme range: Classic Jazz (standards, Be-Bop, Swing), Chamber Music Jazz (trios and quartets with classical components), Swing Musette (French accordion jazz), Big Band, Latin (Bossa, Salsa, Cuban), Classical Music (chamber music, solo concerts, vocal works). The festival offers a platform for both regional amateurs (students from the Tübingen University of Music, hobby musicians, city orchestras) and established professionals. Theme 2026: Dialogue Art & Music

The thematic focus for 2026 is the dialogue between visual art and music. Specifically, this means: galleries open their spaces for concerts, artists and musicians collaborate on joint projects — drawings are read as sheet music, music becomes a source of inspiration for visual works. Workshops, lectures, and performances explore this connection. An ambitious program that positions the festival as a curated space for discourse, not just an event platform.
