About Tübingen Night of Culture
Tübingen Night of Culture — edition 2026
10th Anniversary Edition on May 9, 2026
The 10th Tübingen Night of Culture is the anniversary edition of the format star in Tübingen's cultural calendar. On a single evening — Saturday, May 9, 2026 — over 100 regional artists will transform the historic old town into a collective stage. Music, theater, dance, performance, visual arts, readings, and crossover programs flow into each other in a dense schedule.
The official opening at 6 PM on the Market Square with Mayor Boris Palmer marks the starting signal. Even before that, numerous programs will be running throughout the city — especially for families and children. Until 11:30 PM, artists will perform at more than a dozen venues, after which the stages will quiet down and Tübingen's nightlife will take over.

10th Edition — One Night, An Entire Old Town
The Tübingen Night of Culture is one of the most important cultural events in Baden-Württemberg and celebrates its 10th edition on Saturday, May 9, 2026. In a single evening, over 100 mostly regional artists from music, literature, theater, dance, and visual arts will grace the historic old town of the university city on the Neckar. The event is organized by the University City of Tübingen in cooperation with Kulturnetz Tübingen e.V.
Official Opening on the Market Square with Boris Palmer
The official opening of the 10th Night of Culture will take place at 6 PM on the Market Square with Mayor Boris Palmer. Numerous program items, especially for families and children, will be running throughout the city even before that. The Market Square, as the main stage, will be open from 12:00 PM to 11:30 PM and forms the spatial center of the night.
Venues Between the Old Town and the Castle
The Night of Culture is spread across well over a dozen venues in Tübingen's old town. Highlights include: Hölderlinturm and its garden (5:30 PM–11:30 PM) — the residential tower of the poet Hölderlin on the Neckar riverbank; LTT (15:30–22:30) — the State Theater Württemberg-Hohenzollern; Hohentübingen Castle (3:30 PM–11:00 PM) — the historic fortress complex above the old town; City Museum (6:00 PM–10:00 PM); Lustnauer Tor (2:00 PM–10:00 PM); Café Mehrrettich (5:30 PM–8:30 PM); MasckaraTheater (12:00 PM–10:30 PM); Neckargasse (2:00 PM–11:00 PM); Paleontological Collection (5:30 PM–10:00 PM). Each venue has its own program focus — music, theater, performance, exhibitions, installations.
Tübingen and the University City
Tübingen, with around 91,000 inhabitants, is home to the university of the same name (Eberhard Karls University, founded 1477) and is the district capital of Tübingen. The city on the Neckar is considered one of Germany's most beautiful university towns — the medieval old town with the Stiftskirche, the Hölderlinturm, the colorful row of houses on the Neckar riverbank, and the castle silhouette is one of Southern Germany's most famous postcard views. The Night of Culture turns this architecture into a stage, uniting the region's independent art scene with established institutions once a year.
