When the University Opens Its Gates
The TU Dortmund Summer Festival is one of the best-known university open-air festivals in North Rhine-Westphalia. Once a year, Campus Nord transforms into an open festival mile — students, staff, families, and residents meet, dance to live music, eat international specialties, and discover what the departments have to offer.
Date, Time, and Location 2026
Thursday, July 9, 2026, 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Venue: Campus Nord, Emil-Figge-Straße 50, 44227 Dortmund — in the Eichlinghofen/Hombruch district in the southwest of Dortmund. Free admission, no registration required.

Live acts perform on the main stage and several smaller stages from late afternoon until late evening:
- Student bands from the university environment
- Regional acts playing pop, indie, rock, and electronic music
- DJ sets from the later hours
- Cultural program with dance groups and performances by student initiatives
International Food
The Summer Festival reflects the international student body of TU Dortmund. Food stalls offer:
- Turkish, Syrian, Lebanese specialties
- Asian dishes (Bao, Sushi, Korean BBQ)
- Indian curries, African dishes
- Classic street food — burgers, fries, crêpes
- Vegetarian and vegan options
- International sweets and desserts
Many stalls are run by student initiatives, international student groups, and university catering.
Departmental Exhibitions
What sets the TU Summer Festival apart from other festivals: the departments showcase their work. With hands-on stations, experiments, demonstrations, and exhibitions:
- Robotics lab with robots in action
- Mechanical engineering demonstrations
- Chemistry experiments for children
- Computer science hackathons and programming workshops
- Sociology and political science discussion booths
- Student counseling and information for prospective students
Interactive Activities for Children
Families from Hombruch and Eichlinghofen, as well as from all over Dortmund, come with children: bouncy castle, face painting, hands-on experiments, craft stations, and small mini-concerts provide a well-thought-out children's program.
TU Dortmund and Campus Nord
Technische Universität Dortmund, with around 33,000 students, is one of the largest universities in North Rhine-Westphalia. Campus Nord houses, among others, the departments of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Statistics. With its own light rail stop and large green spaces, it is well-equipped for the Summer Festival.
