Advent market on the 2nd Thursday/Friday in December in front of Trossingen Town Hall
The Trossingen Christmas Market has been held annually for decades on the second Thursday and Friday in December — a compact two-day Advent event on the central Schultheiß-Koch-Platz directly in front of Trossingen Town Hall. The City of Trossingen is the organizer. A special feature is the participation of the German Accordion Museum, which sells gift items at the market — Trossingen is the world capital of harmonicas and accordions, home to world-renowned manufacturers like Hohner.
The market stalls are run by Trossingen clubs, schools, and institutions — music clubs, sports clubs, scouts, church communities, local social organizations. The offerings are classic: Christmas baked goods (cookies, stollen, Hutzelbrot), handicrafts (knitted items, felt, Advent wreaths, door wreaths), decorations made of wood, glass, and natural materials, gift ideas from children's hands, mulled wine, punch, bratwurst, crêpes, and sweet temptations.
Two highlights are planned for children: a Christmas carousel on Schultheiß-Koch-Platz and the traditional visit from St. Nicholas with small gifts for the youngest market visitors. The Trossingen City Band or other local brass ensembles usually provide the musical accompaniment.
Trossingen is a city with around 16,200 inhabitants in the Tuttlingen district (state of Baden-Württemberg, district 08327), located at the transition from the Swabian Jura to the southern Black Forest. The city is world-renowned as the home of the Hohner Works — one of the most famous harmonica and accordion manufacturers — and houses the German Accordion Museum and the Trossingen University of Music. This musical identity shapes the entire city life — including the Christmas market in front of the Town Hall.
As is traditional, the Trossingen Christmas Market takes place on the second Thursday and Friday of December — in 2026, these are December 10th and 11th. Schultheiß-Koch-Platz in front of Trossingen Town Hall transforms into a compact Advent market on both days, featuring festively decorated stalls from Trossingen clubs, schools, and institutions.
Characteristic of Trossingen is the participation of the German Accordion Museum, which sells gift items, calendars, and harmonica-related souvenirs at the market. The city itself also offers a sales booth with its own calendars, postcards, and Trossingen specialties.
