The Trachten- und Schützenjahrtag in Berchtesgaden is one of the largest traditional events in the Berchtesgaden region. Organized by Gauverband I, the United Christmas Sharpshooter Societies and the Costume Societies march in a magnificent procession through the historic market after a festive Holy Mass. More than a thousand participants in traditional costume, accompanied by the music bands of Maria Gern, Berchtesgaden, Bischofswiesen, Königssee, and Ramsau, make the day an impressive showcase of living Upper Bavarian tradition. The Gauheimatabend (regional folk evening), a commemoration of the deceased, and a meeting day round off the program.

Living Tradition in the Berchtesgaden Region

The Trachten- und Schützenjahrtag in Berchtesgaden is one of the most significant traditional events in Upper Bavaria. The day begins with the assembly of the societies, followed by the festive church service in the Collegiate Church and the Parish Church of Berchtesgaden. Afterwards, the grand procession sets off: from the Collegiate Church through the pedestrian zone, along Maximiliansstraße, to Luitpold Park and back. Over a thousand participants in historical costume march through the market, led by the music bands of Maria Gern, Berchtesgaden, Bischofswiesen, Königssee, and Ramsau.
