Grand village festival in the former mining town of Düppenweiler in Saarland
Düppenweiler is a district of the municipality of Beckingen in the Merzig-Wadern district. The village is historically shaped by mining – copper and iron were mined here from 1685 until the 19th century. The traces of this industrial history are part of the place's identity today. With around 1,700 inhabitants, it is a typical Saarland village with active club life.
The Topfstädter Dorffeschd is one of the most established village festivals in western Saarland. The 39th edition already took place in 2025 (August 1st/2nd) – the festival has existed since the mid-1980s. The organizer is the Topfstädter Komitee, a volunteer association of Düppenweiler clubs. The name "Topfstadt" is a nickname for Düppenweiler – the exact etymology goes back to old village traditions.
The format is a classic Saarland village festival with live music from several bands, catering by local clubs, a children's program, a dance evening, and usually a morning pint (Frühschoppen).
On the official Facebook page, the committee publishes program details before the festival. In the past, SR (Saarländischer Rundfunk) reported on the village festival in its media library – a sign of the event's supra-regional importance.Should the 40th edition be in 2026, the Topfstädter Komitee might plan an extended anniversary program. Specific details will be announced via Facebook and the local press (Saarbrücker Zeitung) in early summer 2026.
Düppenweiler is located in the Saarschleifenland, one of the most scenically attractive regions of Saarland. Its proximity to the Saarschleife (Mettlach), Merzig, and the German-Luxembourgish-French border region makes the place touristically interesting. The village festival is an occasion to combine it with a hike on the Saarschleifen-Wandersteig or a visit to the Cloef viewpoint.
The exact date in 2026 will be announced by the Topfstädter Komitee on the official Facebook page. The official website communicates: "The next Topfstädter Dorffeschd is expected to take place in August 2026." Based on experience, the festival runs on the first weekend of August from Friday to Sunday.
