Diversity on the Market Square
The Fest der Kulturen Aurich makes visible what holds the East Frisian district town together as a community: the diversity of nationalities who live, work, and study here. On the central market square, migrant, cultural, and religious communities set up their stalls, presenting typical dishes, music, dances, and traditions from their countries of origin.
Culinary World Tour
The focus is on culinary delights: Turkish Pide and Lahmacun, Syrian Falafel and Hummus, Italian Antipasti, Polish Pierogi, Russian Bliny, Vietnamese Spring Rolls, Eritrean Injera, Indian Curries. Each nationality presents the typical classics of their home cuisine – freshly prepared, often in the tradition of home cooking.
Stage with Folklore, Music, and Dance
A stage presents dance and music groups from the represented communities. Traditional costumes, live music, folk dances, and sometimes contemporary acts alternate. The people of Aurich are invited to immerse themselves in other cultures – whether as listening guests or as spontaneous dance partners.
Encounter as a Message
The Fest der Kulturen is more than an international street food event. It is a political message from the city: cultural diversity is part of everyday life in Aurich. The low-threshold encounters on Sunday strengthen understanding between communities and make the city more livable for everyone.
