23rd Edition – A Classic of Jena's City Centre
The Thuringian Wood Market is one of Jena's most traditional markets. For 23 years, it has brought together woodworkers, carpenters, sculptors, and material specialists from all over Central Germany in the city centre of the Saalestadt every spring. In 2026, it will take place on Saturday, April 11, and is integrated into the 'handgemacht-Tage' – a market double-header that enlivens the entire city centre.
Around 100 Exhibitors in the Wood Sector
Around 100 exhibitors will showcase their crafts in the market: carpenters will build furniture on-site, wood sculptors will work on sculptures, and ladder makers will demonstrate their techniques. A mobile sawmill will operate live, and Timbersports competitions starting at 10 a.m. will provide sporting highlights – lumberjack disciplines like Stock-Saw and Springboard-Chop in spectacular presentations.
Parallel 'Handgemacht-Tage'
Concurrently, the 'handgemacht-Tage' (handmade days) will take place on Saturday and Sunday (April 12): Regional craftspeople, artists, and producers from Jena and the Saale-Unstrut region will present lovingly crafted products – from culinary specialities and regional wines and beers to natural cosmetics, ceramics, textiles, and jewellery. Admission to both markets is free.
Jena – Market City in the Saale Valley
The independent city of Jena in the Saale Valley combines a modern science city with a vibrant market culture. The market square and Eichplatz form the urban centre – an ideal venue for a spring market focused on craftsmanship.
