DIY Open-Air Festival on the grounds of the Kuppelhalle Tharandt in the Tharandter Wald
When the amplifiers are turned up on the grounds of the Kuppelhalle Tharandt on the third weekend of August, one of Saxony's most beautiful small festival summers begins. The Tharalala Music Festival is not a major event with sponsor walls and VIP areas — it's a DIY festival organized by the operators of the Kuppelhalle together with volunteers, befriended bands, and regular guests. The name says it all: Tharandt + Lala = a relaxed homage to the location and singing.
The Kuppelhalle Tharandt is an extraordinary location: a listed building from the 1920s with a characteristic dome, nestled in the Tharandter Wald on the edge of the Ore Mountains. Today, dedicated citizens operate a cultural space here for concerts, readings, and events. For the festival, the outdoor area is used — a main stage and a smaller stage, plus food stalls, camping, and an improvised dance floor. If it rains, the music moves into the hall, and the acoustics under the dome are legendary.
The 2026 lineup spans all styles of handmade music. Already announced are TVC, Blindate, O'Reilly, STONEAPE, Trackstone, and Motörhead Czech Republic Revival — from indie rock to hard rock to cover tributes. More bands will be announced in the spring of 2026. Anyone who has been here before knows: the program is not determined by an algorithm, but by people who make music themselves and perform on stages in their region.
A Tharalala tradition: the communal Sunday breakfast. Those who stayed up all night or simply slept well gather in the morning for coffee, rolls, and final music sessions on the grounds. It's the relaxed conclusion to an intense weekend — without haste, without pressure to clean up. It is precisely these Sunday hours that make many people return as regular guests.
The small town of Tharandt, with around 5,500 inhabitants, is located in the Landkreis Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge, about 15 km southwest of Dresden. It is known for the Faculty of Forest Science of TU Dresden — Tharandt is a true forestry town with a long tradition. The surrounding Tharandter Wald is one of Saxony's largest contiguous forest areas and a popular hiking destination. Those arriving by S-Bahn from Dresden can reach Tharandt in 20 minutes and easily combine the festival with public transport.
After three successful editions, Tharalala is entering its fourth round in 2026. As in previous years, the concept remains true: handmade music, a manageable site, personal atmosphere. Six bands spanning genres — from indie rock to tribute acts — are already confirmed. More acts will be announced in spring 2026. The organizers are keeping applications for volunteers open and ask for patience regarding the program announcement — the booking is done by hand.
As always, the festival is neither profit-oriented nor overly stylized. The revenue goes towards maintaining the Kuppelhalle and paying the bands. Those who want to participate rather than just consume the festival can volunteer and receive free admission in return.
As of: January 15th, 2026. More bands and the exact schedule (stage, time per day) will be announced in spring 2026 on the festival website and social media.
Ticket prices for 2026 will be announced in spring. Sales exclusively on-site at the festival box office or at the Kuppelhalle — no online advance sale. A voluntary solidarity contribution to support the Kuppelhalle is possible. Bring cash, no ATM on-site.
