About CSD Dresden

The Christopher Street Day Dresden is one of the oldest and most politically profiled Pride festivals in Eastern Germany. Since 1990 — the first summer after reunification — Dresden's queer community has celebrated its visibility, its rights, and its resistance against discrimination under the motto '100% Human. No Ifs, Ands, or Buts!' The 33rd edition in 2026 features program weeks from May 28 to June 18, with a focus on the political street festival on Altmarkt (June 4–6), the CSD demonstration on Saturday, June 6 at 12 PM from Neumarkt to Altmarkt, and the closing party on June 13 at Alberthafen Biergarten. In parallel, Dresden is bidding to host EuroPride 2029.

Pride with History — Since 1990

Dresden is among the first East German cities to organize a Christopher Street Day after 1989. The first CSD Dresden took place in 1990 — just months after the peaceful revolution, in a city that was reinventing itself. Today, the event, with its program weeks, political street festival, and demonstration, is one of the central cultural and political dates for the queer movement in Saxony. CSD Dresden e.V. sees itself as the 'voice of lesbian, gay, bi, and trans* people in Dresden and Saxony'.

Three Weeks of Programming, One Political Weekend

Unlike many other CSDs that focus on a single weekend, CSD Dresden runs for several weeks. The 2026 program weeks extend from May 28 to June 18 — three weeks of cultural events, sports activities, workshops, queer film nights, discussion rounds, and social gatherings at various locations in the city. The political focus is on the weekend of June 4 to 6: three days of political street festival on Altmarkt, daily from 4 PM, with stage programs, information booths from queer associations and initiatives, live music, drag performances, and speeches.

The Demonstration — Neumarkt to Altmarkt

The emotional and political centerpiece is the CSD demonstration on Saturday, June 6, 2026, starting at 12 PM. The route leads from Neumarkt through Dresden's Old Town to Altmarkt — a deliberately chosen symbolic line between the historic, restored bourgeois city (Neumarkt with Frauenkirche) and the political center (Altmarkt). Thousands of participants, dozens of politically decorated floats, rainbow-colored flags, drum groups, alliances from politics, church, associations, and universities. The city of Dresden — which has a difficult reputation for some due to Pegida and being an AfD stronghold — consistently shows a different face on the CSD weekend.

EuroPride 2029 — Dresden's Bid

In 2026, parallel to the regular CSD season, Dresden is bidding to host EuroPride 2029. The decision by the European Pride Organisers Association (EPOA) will be made on October 10, 2026. If Dresden wins the bid, the scale of the festival in 2029 would multiply — and send an international signal for queer visibility in a federal state that also presents political challenges for the LGBTIQ* community.

CSD Dresden — edition 2026

The 33rd CSD Dresden in 2026 runs with program weeks from May 28 to June 18. Opening on May 30 at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum. Political street festival on Altmarkt from June 4 to 6 daily from 4 PM. CSD demonstration on Saturday, June 6, 2026, 12 PM from Neumarkt to Altmarkt. Closing party on June 13 at Alberthafen Biergarten from 9 PM to 1 AM. In parallel: Dresden's bid for EuroPride 2029 (decision October 10, 2026).

33rd CSD Dresden — May 28 to June 18, 2026

The 33rd edition of Christopher Street Day Dresden continues the established format of multi-week program events, a three-day political street festival, the demonstration, and the closing party. Opening on May 30 at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum with an opening party starting at 10 PM.

The focus of the political content in 2026 is Dresden's bid for EuroPride 2029. If the European Pride Organisers Association (EPOA) decides in favor of Dresden on October 10, 2026, Europe's largest queer festival would come to the Saxon state capital three years later — a strong signal in a region where queer people continue to face particular challenges.
