Grand carnival procession with over 1,000 participants in the Berchtesgadener Land region
The Teisendorf Carnival Parade is one of the major carnival events in the southeastern Bavarian Berchtesgadener Land region. In 2026, the procession will take place on Sunday, February 15 – assembly is at 1 p.m., and the parade starts at 2 p.m. Over 1,000 active participants in walking groups, music bands, carnival clubs, and on motorized floats will march through the market town of Teisendorf, located on the Austrian border.
The organizer is Sing-Sang Teisendorf e.V., the local carnival society that has been organizing the parade for years. Registrations for walking groups and music bands are handled directly by the club, while motorized floats are registered through the umbrella organization "Vereinigte Faschingszüge" (United Carnival Parades). This ensures the parade is professionally organized and safely coordinated.
In the Berchtesgadener Land region, carnival has its own tradition, distinct from the Rhineland's Karneval and the Swabian-Alemannic Fastnacht: less boisterous and Catholic than the Rhinelanders, less archaic and masked than the Alemanni, but with a long tradition, especially in the market towns of Teisendorf, Freilassing, Laufen, and Bad Reichenhall. The Teisendorf procession is one of the largest here.
Teisendorf is located in the Berchtesgadener Land district, nestled in the pre-Alpine region between the Salzach and Saalach rivers, with views of the Chiemgau and Berchtesgaden Alps. With just under 9,000 inhabitants, it has a village character with vibrant club life. The carnival parade is the highlight of the winter season, attracting locals and visitors from the Salzburg region alike.
The 2026 Teisendorf Carnival Parade will once again gather around 1,000 participants on Carnival Sunday, February 15, for the grand procession through the southeastern Bavarian market town. Assembly at the gathering point begins at 1 p.m., and at 2 p.m., the procession will set off, moving through the market street and the main thoroughfares of the town.
Participants include walking groups from all over the region, music bands, local carnival clubs, and artfully decorated motorized floats. The latter are registered through the "Vereinigte Faschingszüge" association, ensuring safety and coordination among the various carnival parades in the Berchtesgadener Land region. Bonbons, sweets, and carnival jests are traditionally thrown to the spectators along the route.
