Every three years, Remscheid clubs and associations present themselves around Theodor-Heuss-Platz
The Tag der Vereine in Remscheid is a format with a clear civic political ambition: Every three years, Stadtmarketing Remscheid opens the central Theodor-Heuss-Platz and the adjacent Alleestraße for clubs, associations, initiatives, and organizations from the city. They present their work, gain members, build cooperations, and make volunteerism visible in a city where club life has always formed an important counterbalance to its industrial history.
The next edition will take place on Sunday, September 6, 2026 – a triennial date, meaning every three years. The day fits into early autumn, when clubs traditionally open their season and seek new registrations for the upcoming period. Registration for participating clubs has been open since spring 2026; the registration deadline was April 30, 2026. Contact for clubs: [email protected].
In past editions, there were regularly over 100 clubs – from sports clubs (football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, riding) to shooting and carnival clubs, music schools and choirs, nature conservation and heritage associations, parent and student initiatives, to migrant self-organizations, youth groups, and educational institutions of churches and trade unions. Each stand presents itself with hands-on activities, informational material, demonstrations, or stage acts. The format promotes direct encounters: Anyone looking for a club will find the entire spectrum of the city here in one day.
Remscheid is located in the Bergisches Städtedreieck (Bergisch Tri-City Area) with Wuppertal and Solingen in southern North Rhine-Westphalia – a traditional tool and metal industry city with around 110,000 inhabitants. The city in the Bergisches Land has always maintained its identity, alongside its industrial heritage, through its dense club life; the Tag der Vereine makes this visible. Theodor-Heuss-Platz and Alleestraße form the pedestrian zone of the city center – ideal for an open, accessible city festival.
Such club action days are considered a good example of municipal support for engagement: The city provides the stage, electricity, and marketing – the clubs bring their members and their content. The format is practiced similarly by many cities in North Rhine-Westphalia; Remscheid's triennial rhythm ensures that the day remains particularly visible and does not become routine.
