A Strong Statement for Commitment
The Tag der Vereine Genthin is a comparatively young tradition — the 5th edition will take place in 2026. The format was established as a platform for the clubs and initiatives of the city of Genthin and the Jerichower Land to present themselves to the public. The city of Genthin describes the festival as a “strong statement for diversity, commitment, and lived democracy".
The venue is the city centre of Genthin and the clubhouse of the Rassegeflügelzuchtverein (Poultry Breeders' Association). Sports clubs set up hands-on activity stations, heritage associations display traditional costumes and customs, cultural initiatives present their projects, the fire brigade exhibits its vehicles, carnival clubs perform in costume — a cross-section of the voluntary civic life of a small East German town.
Genthin in the Jerichower Land
Genthin is a town in the Jerichower Land district in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, located between Magdeburg and Brandenburg an der Havel. The town was once known for the Henkel detergent factory Genthin (Persil site). Today, it is characterised by small industries, the Elbe-Havel Canal, and an active civil society. The Tag der Vereine is a commitment to civic culture.
Tag der Vereine — edition 2026
The 5th edition of the Tag der Vereine will take place on Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 10 am to 5 pm. Sports clubs, carnival groups, heritage, cultural, and social clubs will set up their stands in the city centre and at the Rassegeflügelzuchtverein clubhouse — with hands-on activities, demonstrations, information booths, and culinary offerings.
