Medieval Times Under Romanesque Arches
Jerichow Monastery in the Jerichower Land is one of Northern Germany's most important Romanesque sacred buildings — founded in 1144 as a Premonstratensian abbey, featuring one of the region's oldest and most complete brick churches. In September, the monastery becomes the stage for a lovingly designed Knight Festival: market activities with craftsmen, taverns, and minstrels, jesters, archery, a mounted knight tournament, and atmospheric camps of medieval reenactor groups.
The organizer is Carnica Veranstaltungen GmbH (Carnica Spectaculi), specializing in medieval markets and historical events. In Jerichow, Carnica cooperates with the monastery and the Kulturstiftung Sachsen-Anhalt, which manages the monastery.
Program Pillars
- Medieval Market with craftsmen, traders, taverns

- Archery for visitors (at their own risk)
- Riding Troupe "Mandschur Tengri" with equestrian demonstrations
- Music: "Opus Furore", "Ohrenpeyn"

Jerichow in the Jerichower Land
Jerichow is located in the Jerichower Land east of the Elbe River, about 30 km northeast of Magdeburg. The small town in the state of Saxony-Anhalt derives its name from the Slavic word for "oak place" — the monastery is by far the most important attraction. Traveling by bike along the Elbe Cycle Route is worthwhile in summer and autumn; in September, the mix of monastic tranquility and market bustle is particularly impressive.
