Anniversary celebration of the Volunteer Fire Brigade in the Buckow district — on June 27, 2026
The municipality of Milower Land in the far west of Brandenburg, directly on the border with Saxony-Anhalt, belongs to the Havelland district. It is a large municipality with just under 3,000 inhabitants, composed of ten districts: Milow, Buckow, Bahnitz, Großwudicke, Jerchel, Möthlitz, Schmetzdorf, Vieritz, Zollchow, and Nitzahn. Buckow is located in the south of the municipality, picturesquely situated between forests and fields.
The Volunteer Fire Brigade Buckow was founded in 1926 — at a time when rural firefighting in Brandenburg was being reorganized. Over a century of volunteer work, many generations of firefighters, countless missions — the FF Buckow is deeply rooted in village life. The anniversary festival on June 27, 2026, is a tribute to this commitment and, at the same time, the largest event in Buckow in a long time.
The festival begins at 10 a.m. with the official opening at the fire station. This is followed by speeches, the welcome of fire brigades from neighboring towns, and a parade through the village — decorated fire trucks, historical equipment, club delegations, and the fire brigade band. Afterwards, there will be demonstration drills with modern firefighting and rescue technology, presentations by the youth fire brigade, and an exhibition of historical fire brigade equipment. For children, there are bouncy castles, face painting, and game stations related to fire brigade technology. In the late afternoon, catering with bratwurst, steak, and cold drinks begins, and in the evening, there will be dancing in the festival tent with a live band or DJ — a setup that is classic in many Brandenburg villages for major anniversaries.
The anniversary is not just a fire brigade event. The entire Buckow district and the other Milower districts are involved — sports club, hunting cooperative, church, school. Neighboring municipalities in the Havelland district are also invited. The municipality of Milower Land supports the festival organizationally and financially. Admission is free. Anyone traveling in the region and wanting to get an impression of real Brandenburg village life is welcome here — not a tourist event, but an authentic festival of volunteerism.
The date is officially entered in the event calendar of the municipality of Milower Land: Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10 a.m. The festival begins with the ceremony at the fire station with a welcome by the fire brigade leadership and the mayor of Milower Land, followed by a parade through Buckow with decorated vehicles and delegations from the district. The detailed program — guest speakers, show acts, band lineup in the evening — will be communicated by the fire brigade and the municipality a few weeks before the date.
