Family festival for Mother's Day in Europe's largest landscape zoo – herrH, DONIKKEL, HONIGKUCHENPFERDE, and Theo Tintenkleks live
Tierpark Berlin-Friedrichsfelde was opened in 1955 in East Berlin as a counterpart to the West Berlin Zoo. With its 160 hectares, it is now Europe's largest landscape zoo – a sprawling area with nearly 9,000 animals of over 700 species. The term 'landscape zoo' distinguishes it from a classic zoo: instead of compact enclosures, the park focuses on large habitats integrated into a park and palace landscape (Schloss Friedrichsfelde).
The 'Day of the Brandenburgers' is a long-established cooperation between Tierpark Berlin and the savings bank, particularly MBS (Mittelbrandenburgische Sparkasse). The event specifically targets families from Brandenburg, who receive a 20% discount on zoo admission with an MBS voucher. Families from Berlin are also welcome.
In terms of content, the day is a family festival with a clearly defined target audience (ages 3 to 12). Performing on stage are herrH and the DONIKKEL-Crew (children's pop music from the DONIKKEL troupe around Donikkl/Bavaria), the Berlin children's band HONIGKUCHENPFERDE, Clown Celly, and Theo Tintenkleks (Berlin children's composer and storyteller). The mix covers everything from movement songs and slapstick to more poetic and narrative formats.
In addition to the stage program, several stations ensure a varied day: a climbing wall for brave children, a bouncy castle, face painting with animal motifs, and opportunities to observe the park's newborn animals. Schloss Friedrichsfelde and its gardens are also made particularly visitor-friendly on this day.
The 2026 edition falls on Mother's Day Sunday, following the long-established logic of the Tierpark–MBS cooperation. The day is aimed at families from Berlin and Brandenburg, with a clear focus on the stage program and several activity stations spread across the Tierpark grounds. Schloss Friedrichsfelde and the park avenues are integrated into the program.
The stage program features a rotation of four main acts: herrH (together with the DONIKKEL-Crew), the Berlin children's band HONIGKUCHENPFERDE, Clown Celly, and Theo Tintenkleks. Between concerts, a climbing wall and bouncy castle invite energetic fun, face painting stations apply animal motifs to children's faces, and visitors can observe the park's newborn animals. (In 2026, likely young animals from elephants, cheetahs, or golden lion tamarins).
Stage program and performance times will be published by the Tierpark in the festival week. Program subject to change.
