Multi-day sports and club festival of SV 1928 Niederbexbach with Elfer-Cup and AH City Championship
SV 1928 Niederbexbach e.V. is one of the traditional football clubs in the Saarpfalz district – as the founding year 1928 in the club name suggests, the club looks back on almost a century of history. Every year, it hosts its multi-day sports festival on its festival meadow at Gassenweg 14 – a mix of football tournament, club festival, and neighborhood meeting point, which is typical for the Saarland club scene in this form.
Over the years, the Niederbexbach sports festival has developed a distinct Saarland character: In addition to the classic football tournaments (juniors, women, men, veterans), there are specialties like the Elfer-Cup (a penalty shootout tournament) and Fußball-Dart – a variant introduced in 2024 where a giant dartboard is played with footballs instead of darts. There is also the Trinkerpokal, a humorous and social competition at the festival bar, as well as the obligatory roast suckling pig as a culinary highlight.
A special element is the Bexbacher AH-Stadtmeisterschaft (Bexbach Veterans' City Championship) – a tournament for the "Alte Herren" (veterans) teams of the Bexbach clubs. SV Niederbexbach competes here against FV Oberbexbach, SV Bexbach, and other teams from the surrounding districts. It is a friendly but ambitious competition with a trophy and an honor lap in the festival tent.
With the 2026 edition, the sports festival expands to six days – a significantly extended format compared to the classic weekend editions. From Wednesday, July 1st, to Monday, July 6th, the program includes daily football matches, evening events, a family day, and a social supporting program. The club typically expects several thousand visitors throughout the entire festival week.
Bexbach is a town with around 18,000 inhabitants in the eastern Saarpfalz district, not far from the border with Rhineland-Palatinate. Niederbexbach is one of the districts that strongly identifies with club life. Visitors to the sports festival can extend their stay with a visit to the nearby Blumeninsel Bexbach (Bexbach Flower Island) with its botanical garden and dinosaur park – one of the region's better-known attractions.
The exact program will be published by the club in the weeks before the festival on the club website and social media channels. Experience shows that the format follows the pattern of previous years with an expanded program in 2026.
Detailed schedule to be published in early summer 2026. Experience shows the sports festival follows this structure:
