Once a year, the entire city center belongs to the children — the 19th Suhler KinderKulturNacht
For six hours, the Suhl city center belongs to the children — as the market square, Steinweg, and Platz der Deutschen Einheit are transformed into one large play and experience area from the afternoon until late evening. Over 70 interactive stations, stage shows, and workshops are spread throughout the city center. The concept is unusually consistent: no admission tickets, no closed-off areas — children, parents, and grandparents can simply stroll through, try things out, and participate.
On the market stage, dance performances by regional groups, magic shows, and puppet theater take place all evening. On Steinweg, you'll find bouncy castles, archery, creative workshops, and boat rides on the stream. At the Platz der Deutschen Einheit, face painting, interactive theater, and large movement games await. Cultural institutions such as the Suhl Arms Museum (one of Germany's most important museums for arms history), the City Library, and the Suhl Puppet Theater open their doors for free or at special rates for young visitors.
The first interactive activities start at 3 PM. At 4 PM, the Mayor of Suhl officially opens the KinderKulturNacht on the market stage. Afterward, programs continue simultaneously on several stages and at numerous interactive stations until late in the evening.
With around 35,000 inhabitants, Suhl is one of Germany's smallest independent cities — and is located in the heart of the Thuringian Forest, in the state of Thuringia. The city has a long tradition as a weapons manufacturing center and today hosts world cups for sports shooting, major winter sports events, and a vibrant cultural life. The KinderKulturNacht showcases this cultural energy from its most family-friendly side — and turns the city center into a playground for everyone for a few hours.
On June 6, 2026, the city of Suhl will once again completely hand over its city center to children. From 3 PM, the first interactive stations will start. At 4 PM, the Mayor will open the event on the market stage. Until late evening, stage shows, workshops, and interactive activities will run simultaneously on several squares.
For the 19th edition, a city tour "Legendary Suhl" at 7 PM will complement the program for older children. The city will publish the complete flyer at suhl.eu/kinderkulturnacht.
