The Lower Rhine's largest fair at Whitsun: over 160 showmen, Solar Wheel, Fire Ball, and Heidi Coaster between Nordwall and Ostwall
The Geldern Whitsun Fair is the largest and most traditional Volksfest (popular festival) in the Lower Rhine region. Over the entire Whitsun weekend from May 23rd to 26th, 2026, the city center between Nordwall and Ostwall will be transformed into a massive fairground. Over 160 showmen will set up their rides, food stalls, and game booths – a density that is unique in this scale in the Lower Rhine.
The fairground attractions are the main draw. The city of Geldern has once again booked a high-quality lineup of showmen for 2026:
The opening takes place on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026, at 2 PM. The fair runs throughout the Whitsun weekend with daily extended opening hours. The spectacular finale follows on Tuesday, May 26th, 2026: the traditional cannon shot in the evening, followed by grand fireworks over the fairgrounds – a highlight known to generations of Geldern residents and visitors from the surrounding area.
Geldern is located in the district of Kleve, about 30 kilometers northwest of Krefeld and 60 kilometers from Düsseldorf. With around 33,000 inhabitants, Geldern is a small town – but the Whitsun Fair attracts well over 100,000 visitors from all over the Lower Rhine and even from the neighboring Netherlands. Its geographical proximity to Venlo, Maastricht, and Nijmegen makes Geldern a hub of the cross-border Lower Rhine region.
Admission is free for all four days. You only pay for rides and food. Anyone who wants to experience the Lower Rhine lifestyle with Dutch influences, good beer, potato pancakes (Reibekuchen), and Germany's showman tradition will find one of the most densely packed Whitsun Volksfeste in the country here.
