Half a Century of Geldener Sommer

The Straßenparty Geldern boasts the longest continuous street festival tradition on the Lower Rhine. What began as a small city centre festival in 1976 has grown into a major three-day festival with five stages by 2026. The 50th edition from June 12th to 14th, 2026, also serves as an anniversary review: half a century of summer atmosphere in the Lower Rhine town.

Five Stages — Diverse Genres

The musical concept has been a hallmark for years: five stages in the city centre, running concurrently, with a deliberately broad genre palette:

• Samba Stage — Latin rhythms and Brazilian sounds
• Jazz Stage — Classic jazz and modern variations
• Rock Stage — Classics and new rock formations
• Dance Stage — Dance groups from Geldern and the surrounding area
• Main Stage — Rotating highlight performances

Wander through the city centre, and you'll hear a different musical genre every 20 metres — an urban experience unique in its density on the Lower Rhine.

Flea Market and Fairground Rides

Running parallel to the stages is a large flea market in the city centre — applications for exhibitors have been open since January 2026 through the Geldern Tourism and Culture Office. New Management Since 2026

An important structural change in 2026: Following the withdrawal of the Werbering Geldern, which supported the festival for decades, the Geldern City Tourism and Culture Office, in cooperation with the Marketing Bäderverein Waldfreibad, will take the lead from 2026 onwards. This new management ensures continuity while also refreshing the concept for the anniversary.

Geldern — A Lower Rhine Town with Substance

Geldern is located in the district of Kleve on the lower Lower Rhine, about 30 km northwest of Krefeld and 60 km from Düsseldorf. With around 33,000 inhabitants, the town is manageable but culturally active — the Straßenparty is one of its regionally renowned events. The Lower Rhine lifestyle, with Dutch influences, shapes the atmosphere: relaxed, friendly, open-minded.

Free Admission — Three Days of City Music

Admission is free on all three days. The concept of the Straßenparty has remained the same for decades: no entrance fees, free access to all stages, free browsing among market stalls and the flea market. Consumption is at your discretion at the numerous food and drink stands.
