A Festival for the Neighborhood

The Südstadt/Biestow Neighborhood Festival is an annual event organized by the Südstadt/Biestow Neighborhood Table together with the Rostock Neighborhood and Community Center (SBZ). The festival takes place in Kringelgrabenpark, directly behind the SBZ heating plant at Tychsenstraße 22, bringing together families, clubs, cultural initiatives, and residents from both Rostock districts.

Program and Activities

For several hours, the festival offers a packed program of live music, stage performances, and interactive activities. Classic features include a seven-station skill course, juggling, circus activities, Zumba, and Nordic walking. Previous editions under the motto 'Kringelgraben in Motion' emphasized the sporting aspect, while more recent editions under the motto 'Diversity Connects' have focused on neighborly togetherness — colorful pennants made of fabric and paper adorn the park.

Culinary Offerings

Vegetarian food and drinks from regional producers are available on-site. Catering is partly organized by volunteers and partly by neighborhood initiatives, keeping prices low.

Local Context

Südstadt and Biestow are two southern districts of Rostock in the Rostock district (state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). The SBZ heating plant, a converted former power plant, is now a hub for culture, community, and neighborhood work, housing, among other things, the community radio station LOHRO.

Südstadt Neighborhood Festival — edition 2026

The Südstadt/Biestow Neighborhood Festival 2026 is planned for Saturday, September 19, 2026, in Kringelgrabenpark behind the SBZ heating plant. Music, hands-on activities, regional food, and an open stage program are expected again for the entire neighborhood.

The 2026 edition of the Südstadt/Biestow Neighborhood Festival follows the established rhythm: a Saturday afternoon from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM in Kringelgrabenpark, organized by the Neighborhood Table and the SBZ Rostock. The final motto and the complete program schedule will be announced in late summer 2026 via the SBZ channels and the Südstern neighborhood magazine.
