About Science Festival
Science Festival — edition 2026
4th Stuttgart Science Festival 2026
From Friday, June 26, to Sunday, July 5, 2026, the science city of Stuttgart presents itself in over 100 events. The festival opens on Friday evening at 6 PM in the City Hall by Lord Mayor Frank Nopper and Ingo Zamperoni, the moderator of "Tagesthemen" on ARD — symbolizing the high visibility of Stuttgart as a science location.
Thematically, the 2026 edition follows the nationwide Science Year with the two mottos "MINT inside" (Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences, Technology) and "Medicine of the Future". However, the festival motto "MINT & more" also makes it clear that humanities and creative sciences will have their say — with the State Academy of Fine Arts, the University of Music, and the Hochschule der Medien, Stuttgart is also a significant location for art, design, and communication sciences.

Stuttgart Science Festival — Four Days of Science as a Volksfest
The Stuttgart Science Festival has been held every two years since 2022 and is organized by the state capital Stuttgart in cooperation with Stuttgart's universities, DLR (German Aerospace Center), Fraunhofer Institutes, and numerous other scientific and cultural institutions. 2026 marks the 4th edition — and it is entirely dedicated to the nationwide Science Year 2026 with the mottos "MINT inside" and "Medicine of the Future".
Program — Over 100 Events Throughout the City
The Science Festival is a decentralized event: events take place throughout the city — on the campuses of the University of Stuttgart and the University of Hohenheim, at the Fraunhofer Institutes and DLR Stuttgart, in universities, museums, the city library, and right in the city center. Thematically, it covers everything from mathematics, physics, computer science, and materials science to biomedicine, humanities, and art. The motto "MINT & more" emphasizes that in addition to scientific subjects, creative disciplines should also be showcased.
Science Day on the Market Square
The highlight of the festival is the Science Day on the Market Square on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 — a large open-air science day where all participating institutions bring interactive stations, experiments, live demonstrations, and knowledge shows to Stuttgart's city center. School classes are particularly invited — the day is a huge outdoor school day.
Stuttgart — A City of Science
Stuttgart (state capital of Baden-Württemberg, independent city 08111) is one of Germany's most important research and university locations. With the University of Stuttgart (main campus Vaihingen), the University of Hohenheim, the Hochschule der Medien, the Hochschule für Technik, the State Academy of Fine Arts, the University of Music, DLR with the Institute for Structures and Design Technology, five Fraunhofer Institutes, the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, and many industrial research sites, the region is one of the most densely populated scientific landscapes in Europe. The Science Festival opens this landscape to a broad audience every two years.
