Velbert's Culinary Spring Weekend

The Street Food & Music Festival Velbert is one of the established food truck festivals in the Niederberg region. Organized by Velbert Marketing, it takes place annually at the central Platz Am Offers in Velbert Mitte — a traffic-calmed square with seating options and direct access to the pedestrian zone.

International Cuisine from Over 20 Trucks

The gastronomic offer is deliberately international: juicy burgers, flavorful empanadas, sweet poffertjes, classic crêpes, Asian street food specialties, and much more. The cocktail bar serves classics like Caipirinha, Sex on the Beach, and Red Mojito, complemented by a selection of gin and wine, as well as regional beer.

Music and Program

The musical program alternates between established acts and young talents. The festival opens on Friday from 4 PM with DJ Marko Holtiwick. On Saturday and Sunday, students from the Velbert Music and Art School and French guests will perform from midday onwards — music, dance, and interactive activities for children and teenagers. The evenings are traditionally filled with bands and DJs.

Velberter Late Night and Sunday with Open Shops

A highlight is the fusion of the festival with the Velberter Late Night on Friday (May 8th) — the shops in the city center will be open late into the evening, with bars and restaurants featuring live music. On Sunday (May 10th), there will be a Sunday with open shops from 1 PM to 6 PM, running parallel to the Europe Festival.

Velbert in the Mettmann District

Velbert is located in the southern Mettmann district, between the Ruhr area and the Bergisches Land. The city, with its tradition of locks and hardware (Schloss- und Beschlägemuseum), has established itself as a festival and event location, alongside Velbert-Langenberg.

Street Food Festival in the Niederberg Region

Velbert is one of the municipalities that consistently uses the street food festival format as a city marketing tool. Unlike the major central street food events in Düsseldorf or Cologne, the Velbert festival is more family-oriented, manageable, and more closely integrated with local retail. The concept works: the mix of food truck tour, late-night shopping, and Sunday with open shops appeals to a broad audience from the entire Niederberg region — from Wülfrath and Heiligenhaus to Ratingen.

Tips for Your Visit

Visitors should come hungry and with time to spare — the selection of trucks invites you to try everything. Saturday or Sunday afternoon is particularly recommended when the young talents from the Velbert Music and Art School perform and the program is family-friendly. For night owls, Friday evening with a DJ and Velberter Late Night is the more exciting choice. In any case, a detour to the nearby Schloss- und Beschlägemuseum, which explains the city's industrial history, is also worthwhile.
