The harvest festival is a cherished tradition in the Schaumburg region. In numerous villages, the harvested crops are celebrated in September with a multi-day village festival. Bergkirchen joins this tradition, organizing a weekend each year that follows the classic harvest festival format while retaining its specific Bergkirchen character.

Harvest Crown and Harvest Wagon

In the run-up to the festival, the harvest crown is woven from ears of grain, flowers, and ribbons by members of the rural women's association (Landfrauen) and the village community, often over weeks of work. It takes pride of place in the festive parade. The harvest wagon is loaded with vegetables, fruit, and grain from local fields and gardens, illustrating the diversity of what the region produces.

Parade on Sunday

The grand parade on Sunday leads through Bergkirchen and is the visual highlight of the weekend. Traditional costume groups, marching bands, friendly clubs, decorated wagons, and riders form a festive procession that enlivens the village streets. Residents decorate houses and front gardens, and spectators line the streets.

Bergkirchen by the Steinhuder Meer

Bergkirchen is located in the north of the Wölpinghausen municipality, not far from the Steinhuder Meer.
