On approximately 5,000 m² of sand, playing fields for beach sports competitions are set up, along with a grandstand seating around 1,200 people and about 100 freely accessible beach chairs serving as VIP boxes for visitors.
Months of Programming
From early June to mid-September, the arena serves as the venue for sports and cultural events. Eight disciplines alternate: beach handball, beach soccer, beach volleyball, CrossFit beach competitions, DLRG water rescue competitions, and other beach and water sports formats. In parallel, regional and national bands perform – for example, at the container concert by the Wal-Strandbar, which opens the season, as well as at the weekly Wednesday concerts and the "Glashäger Strandkonzerte" (Glashäger Beach Concerts).
Local Context
Warnemünde is the most famous Baltic Sea resort district of Rostock in the Rostock district (state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) and one of the most visited beaches in Northern Germany. The Strand Arena complements the maritime profile of the seaside resort with a dense program of top-level sports and concert culture, without compromising the beach's free-access character – sports competitions and concerts are generally free to attend.
